The Background
The background of SmartAgency.net lies in a 4-year TAFTIE task force on the subject of "Additionality". The task force has developed a self-assessment tool and process for assessing the added value that a research and innovation funding agency provides for its clients. Hence, it helps an agency to assess its effectiveness.
The self-assessment tool and its associated process have been developed by programme managers and evaluators at TAFTIE agencies in a number of different countries. As a result, the tool set is flexible and easily adapted to the needs and the context of a specific funding agency.
In 2007, the task force reached a stage where new organisations and individuals were invited to join SmartAgency - a community aiming at making agencies more effective through the use of the task force results. SmartAgency.net was created to facilitate the dissemination of the task force results among the members of SmartAgency and the communication between these organisations, SmartAgency.net helps members communicate with each other, obtain access to the self-assessment tool set, make improvements to the tool set available to other members of SmartAgency, and to make contact with other members in the community.
Over the duration of the task force, numerous people have contributed to the papers, tool set and website. We would like to thank all of these individuals for their participation and input.
