Introducing me
My name is Marcel Kleijn. I work for the Dutch agency for innovation and sustainability SenterNovem in the Netherlands (The Hague). I work for the unit Innovation Intelligence & Coordination, where I am responsible for large-scale analyses used by the SenterNovem management for strategic decisions with respect to innovation programmes.
In 2004 I joined the TAFTIE Task Force on Additionality, which was chaired by the ever-enthusiastic Kjell-Hakan Närfelt from Vinnova.
Since then I have worked with this Task Force to develop the self-assessment tool. My main task in the last years was the development of the Facilitator Guide.
I am currently trying to implement the self-assessment tool within SenterNovem, together with
JanPeterOelen,
GeertThijssen and Carmen Heinze. We are trying to set up a one-day assessment. I have started a discussion about this on the Discussion Space.
My experience with the self-assessment tool
In the process of developing the tool, I have done three assessments. The first two ones only led to improvements in the tool, there were no clear results for the programme which was assessed. In 2007 I started a third assessment, on the Challenger Facility: a loan scheme with the objective to realise more fast-growing high tech SME's through financing world-class high-risk innovations.
This assessment is still in progress (important tip: make sure you have enough time to do the self-assessment next to your daily work!) but so far it seems to work very well. For the programme manager which we (me and Geert Thijssen) interviewed twice was very enthusiastic to explain his programme to people who seemed to understand what it was all about. There is some discussions going on within his team about which activities to prioritise. It seems the self-assessment can really help in this process. We are going to test this is in the beginning of next year. I will keep you updated on this site about the progress.
I have uploaded the results of the self-assessment on this page.
